Apple allows voip for the iPhone

Apple announced that they will allow third party software developers to create applications that will enable iPhone owners to make voip calls over the device’s built in wifi connection. This is surprising because this will effectively allow iPhone users to use voip to bypass AT&T’s wireless service. AT&T is the exclusive wireless provider of the iPhone.

Hence it is expected that many established voip companies and some new players will likely begin developing Internet phone applications for the iPhone in the very near future.  This is a big step forward for voip service in general.
