Bababoo – new mobile voip app

Bababoo mobile voipA new iPhone mobile voip app has hit town. It is called Bababoo. This voip app is similar to Viber. Bababoo aims to simplify making calls while saving on costs – arent they all. Apart for easy to call, Bababoo has some other automatic call routing capabilities and offers group calling therefore, their users can do conferencing at a touch of a button – for free. Unfortunately, they are still short on voicemail and SMSes.

Similar to most voip app, Bababoo user-to-user calls are free. Bababoo will handle the technical matters of connecting to WiFi or 3G (data). If users intend to make calls to non-Bababoo users, the calls are charged about 16 cents/minute. If Bababoo cannot connect you through WiFi or 3G (data) then Bababoo transfers the call to your carrier who will charge $1.69/minute.

Before you do use Bababoo, do refer to their listing rates. Unlike most voip app, users can purchase Bababoo credits from the iPhone app itself. Unfortunately, Bababoo for android or blackberry is unavailable, yet. Sound similar to Viber. I really do not know why it is taking so long.

Mobile Voip – Next communication wave

Mobile VoIP is essentially a communication technology that people use to send and receive phone calls with the Internet connection on a mobile device. What happen is that for a standard cellular service, the call is placed through the voice network. However, for Mobile Voip, the call is being transmitted over the network of a third party mobile VoIP service provider.

Therefore, when a mobile VoIP call is placed on a mobile device and that transmission takes place over an available network. This means that it does not use the available and costly “minutes” on a cell plan from your carriers. At the same time, the user is not charged any carrier long distance fees if one is to call overseas. In some cases, an applicable charge may be applied by the mobile VoIP provider possibly for data charges.

The ability to make calls without using minutes or incurring long distance charges is truly one of the biggest benefits to mobile VoIP. The charges associated with this communication channel tend to be much lower than the cost associated with the standard use of the cellular phone or other mobile calling device.

Downside is that for mobile voIP to work, it has to be used where a Wifi or 3G data connection is available. There are several companies that currently offer mobile VoIP service, each with their own value proposition in the market. Mobile Voip is a relatively new technology that is slowly gaining adoption.

Google shuts down Gizmo5 VOIP

Google has shut down its standalone Gizmo5 voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) service. Google bought the startup company 16 months ago. Google had integrated Gizmo5 voip functionality into their gmail system. Therefore gmail users are able to make voip calls direct from their inbox. Now they decided to focus their efforts and resources on other voice innovations and expect to roll out a Google Voice client for Honeycomb tablets. While many Honeycomb tablets will likely lack a phone radio for making calls, Google Voice can be useful for sending and receiving SMS messages and managing voicemails.
