What do I do with my Voip handsets after terminating voip provider?
Some of you may want to terminate your voip provider service because of poor quality. For those who have bought voip handsets, what do you do with them.
Firstly, you have to check to see if the voip phone are standards based or locked to voip provider. If they are standards based, you will be able to plugged into any analog phone jack to work as a normal landline phone. If its locked to voip provider means that they are IP phones and requires connection via internet for the phone to work.
It is possible for an IP phone to connect to a landline. You would need a computer with a special adapter. This adapter would receive incoming analog phone signal and then convert it to digital format for the voip phone and vice-versa. A little bit expensive for a normal consumer. Have to find this adapter as well.
If the voip handsets are cordless and connect to a base unit, it may be possible to use them with PSTN phone line – just depends on base unit features. If voip unit is “dual” function, meaning it accommodates PSTN fallback as well as voip, it may be possible.
JOIP Globarange phone
For example, the JOIP Globarange phone (Panasonic + DeltaThree service) functions both as voip phone and the standard PSTN phone. It has 2 jacks at the back, an ethernet jack for the voip internet connection and standard PSTN jack for regular phone line connection.
If it is strictly voip and no PSTN jack, more often then not you may not be able to even use it with other voip service because the voip provider usually “locks” the configuration settings so you cannot “reconfigure” with another provider.
So which voip handset should I buy?
You better get one that is not voip provider locked and its standards based so that you can use like any normal analog phones. Ensure that the voip handset has a PSTN jack as well.
Joip review
Joip is a consumer brand of deltathree that powers the Voice over IP (VoIP) service of Panasonic’s GLOBARANGE hybrid landline/VoIP phones. Panasonic’s GLOBARANGE phone owners automatically become part of the global joip community, where members can call each other around the world for free. In addition, joip users can enjoy a vast range of advanced VoIP features and services.
Accessing the site is now little impossible because we cant get through the home page to check its features. However, research from other sites mentioned stated that joip has the following features: Community Directory, Phonebook, Voice Mail, Do Not Disturb, SoftPhone, Ringtones, Web joip, Text Messaging, Call Forwarding, Find Me, Call Waiting, Caller ID, Repeat Dial, Speed Dial, Call Conference, Real-Time Online Account Management and Real-Time Online Call Records.
Further research showed that there were unsatisfactory users with one reporting no service for more than 6 months yet he is being charged monthly. Another reported that their service quality has degraded somewhat. There are the plus points with one being low joip rates and the other impeccable joip features.
