Google Nexus One
Google’s Nexus One is geared to challenge Apple’s iPhone directly. Nexus One do have some advantages over Apple’s phones. For starters, in the U.S., it doesn’t run on AT&T and available on T-Mobile and future Verizon. Being product of google, it has nice integration with its online services like Google Maps, Facebook, and Picasa. Plus it has active noise cancellation and voice control. With the Android platform being open, developers don’t have to go through red tapes through Google which can lead to rapid product innovation.
But none of these features is as important to the industry as the iPhone was. The iPhone was the first smartphone to really bring consumers to the mobile Web and its App Store changed the way applications are priced and distributed. Android phones are now riding on these successes. The iPhone is also a great iPod and iTunes client which Android doesn’t / hasn’t yet to offer. More can be done by Google. It is still a good start anyhow.
