Skype has decided to charge a flat rate for international calls. Skype has packaged a number of different unlimited fixed international calls at a flat monthly fee although they point out with an asterisk that “* The legal bit – as part of our fair usage policy you’ll get up to 10,000 calling minutes per month.”
Analyst are suggesting that this move shows how difficult it is to make money from telephony as flat monthly fees for international calls are offered by other Internet providers. In Europe, voip providers have been offering this for some time.
Skype however points out that they have been making a profit for five quarters and that the changes are part of their natural business progression.
