Vonag announced that it has been granted a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its invention “Method and Apparatus for Enhanced Internet Telephony.” The patent is related to Internet telephony enhancements especially those that involve Network Address Translation (NAT). The patented technology reduces the incidence of dropped calls, incomplete attempted calls or other communication hitches. Through this technology it will be possible to solve the problem of a routerr losing an outbound port during an Intermet telephone connection. The invention makes the media terminal adapter to send an outbound message to the Internet telephony regional data center, thereby preventing the router from timing out and closing the outbound port. Using the new technology, Vonage will be able to use VoIP across a variety of residential routers.
